At Home Care to Prevent TMJ Problems
http://www.OrthodonticAffiliates.com
Prevention is always better than cure, and a few simple steps can help to prevent your family members from developing TMJ disorders, or can help to ease any initial symptoms.
Step 1 – Avoid chewing gum and excessively hard foods. As treats now and then these items cause no problems, but excessive chewing can certainly lead to problems with the joint.
Step 2 – Take some time to learn relaxation techniques. In our fast paced world it’s easy to forget to set aside time for relaxation, but this can really help to reduce your stress and muscle tension. You need to find what works for you and your family, but perhaps gentle exercise such as swimming or a yoga class could help to reduce your tension.
Step 3 – Prioritize good posture. Even our children today spend a significant amount of time glued to their computer screens. By putting good practices in place such as taking frequent breaks to stand and stretch you could soon start to improve your posture.
TMJ disorders can be incredibly painful, but these simple practices could really help to reduce the risk of developing such a condition. If you would like more handy hints about avoiding TMJ disorders, or if you are concerned about yourself or a family member, why not make an appointment with your orthodontist to set your mind at ease.
