Panic attacks can become a bothersome experience but panic episodes have been proven to be harmless. A panic episode may usually last in a few minutes and the effects may immediately subside. Consulting a therapist or counselor can also be a form of treatment for panic attacks. Trying out new methods of therapy, with the supervision of a psychotherapist can greatly reduce panic attacks form occurring or prevent it from happening again.
Cognitive behavioral therapy is one method of preventing panic attacks, the purpose of this method is for the therapist to seek the causes of the panic episode and try to substitute it with positive thinking. This method focuses on the thinking patterns of a person and looks at the causes of panic attacks.
Interoceptive exposure therapy is another method of psychotherapy. This therapy subjects individuals to experience panic attacks with the supervision of a therapist, this aims to point that panic attacks are not harmful and does not cause harm to others. This method can also provide a positive manner of thinking for patients, helping them avoid panic attacks.
Taking medications can be an easy way of preventing panic attacks from happening. The common prescriptions for panic attacks are anti-depressants and anxiety pills. Use of medicines however, should be limited since excessive use of these drugs can lead to an addiction.
Medications and different methods of therapy can be a good combination in getting rid of panic attacks permanently. Research data shows that an effective and fast way of recovery is through the use of a combination of panic attack relief methods, than using just one method.
It is best to consult a doctor about panic attacks, proper diagnosis is important so that the necessary measures could be implemented. These methods can help in eliminating the symptoms of a panic attack, and it may get rid of panic disorder permanently.
