How can I release tension and reduce stress?
I am highly stressed and have been for quite some time. At least one of my parents have been sick for the past 4 years. Last month, I donated a kidney to my dad. Less than a month after that my mom was diagnosed with cancer again. This in addition to a number of other issues, I don’t see the stress ending soon. I’m about at my breaking point. Any ideas on how to release the tension even if it’s for 30 mins? I’m just now getting back to working out. (I can’t overdo it too much since I just had surgery.) Unfortunately I don’t have the money to spend on frequent massages. Any ideas?
Hi, first off I would like to say that I am sorry for everything you are going through. I truly am, nobody should have to go through that pain. I wish the best to both your parents, and to a speedy recovery for you. It is a wonderful gift you gave your father.
Now, to your stress. The main thing I can offer you are some little ideas… the best thing that helps me is sitting in a nice relaxed area, where nobody can bother you. Take some time, how ever much you may have and just practice some deep breathing. Take a big breath in and release. It may sound silly but it really helps. You can also roll your shoulders backwards while doing this.
I see that you mention going back to the gym. That is great, another thing that’s nice is taking a walk, weather it’s with a family pet or by yourself it’s a great feeling.
Other things, a small hand massage during the day, I feel that this helps me release some of the tightness as well as stress. I really feel good after working the pains in my hands out.
Listening to your favorite music, or sit down at night and just read. Have some you time.
Good luck, all the best.

How long after I become a Certified Massage Therapist do I need to carry insurance? Where do I go or who do I call to get insurance to practice massage therapy?
In most states you will be required to hold liability insurance for massage in order to receive your license and in some cases for certification. The main 2 massage insurance providers are ABMP and AMTA. Both are great organizations and can answer any questions you may have about coverage.
Side note – Are you currently in school right now? And what state are you located in?
