why did Obama win the nobel peace prize?

Author: Do you agree with AP’s report as to the reason why Obama won the Nobel Peace prize? They said the decision was "designed to build momentum behind his initiatives to reduce nuclear arms, ease tensions with the Muslim world and stress diplomacy and cooperation rather than unilateralism." If you do not agree, what do you think is the main reason he won the prize?

According to their own website, the deadline for the submission of names to be considered for the prize is February 1.

According to the Committee the POTUS won the Nobel Peace Prize on "giving the world "hope for a better future" and striving for nuclear disarmament. And he did all that between January 20th and February 1.
Obama was not nominated based on what he had accomplished as president because he had been in office for less than two weeks.
I would add a simple, declarative WTF and leave it at that.

I think Obama’s been outmaneuvered. Giving him a Nobel Prize for promises he made kind of forces him to keep those promises or be known as a liar internationally.
(Why didn’t we Americans think to give him a prize for his unemployment kept lower than 8% if the "stimulus" was passed promise?)

It is a slap in the face to the nominees that have worked their entire lives to bring peace in different areas of the world. What has Obama done, in his entire life, to merit such an honor? When you have great people around the world that are actually laying down their lives and the lives of their families to help bring resolve to areas that have lived in great fear, poverty and under inhumane conditions for many years. Again, what has Obama accomplished in his entire life that even comes close to the sacrifices of these honorable people? It is or should be an embarrassment for this country for Obama to be placed on a pedestal that he in no way deserves. Unbelievable!
As to why he won, who knows. Maybe by being the first black President. Surely it cannot be because he is alienating our allies around the world and apologizing for America to our enemies! He has not changed the policy for the war or any international policy that I know of that suddenly endears America to what has been our enemies for many decades. I only see a list of critical problems this country faces that Obama is continuing to ignore. I hear about our military people getting killed everyday and he still cannot make a decision about sending them help. But, he can make a snap decision about where he believes the Olympics should be held. Who is this man, a man that told us that we should look to his associates to learn about him. So far all I have seen him associate with are radical left wing nuts. Wright, Ayers, Soros, to name three out of many.
